“Mental Health First Aid training”
Cyberteens Foundation conducted a “Mental Health First Aid training” for all 13219 Cyberteens Helpline Crisis Supporters, with 24 dedicated crisis supporters participating in a 12-hour, two-day session. Designed for hands-on, interactive learning, the training utilized storytelling, group activities, role-playing, case studies, and videos. This training equipped our crisis supporters with vital skills to recognize mental health challenges, insights to recognize immediate support, and connect to the survivors. Through this training crisis supporters can assist their survivors by providing them with initial stage emotional and mental support.Through this Mental Health First Aid Training, our crisis supporters gained valuable knowledge and skills to support mental health in the workplace.
Key outcomes included:
- Understanding Mental Health: Recognizing signs of common mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, and stress.
- Communication Skills: The training emphasized active listening, empathy, and non-judgmental communication, which are crucial when supporting someone in distress.
- Identifying Warning Signs: Learning how to identify early indicators of mental health struggles.
- Offering Initial Support: Crisis supporters practiced ways to provide immediate support through role-play and case studies and also learning guidance toward professional help.
- Connecting with Resources:They were introduced to mental health resources and support systems, helping them guide their colleagues toward further help if needed.
This training equipped our team with the tools to create a safer and more supportive workplace, helping individuals feel confident in offering initial mental health support and fostering a culture of care and understanding.
